She might be petite, but her favorite chair is oversized. Susan Peters might look like Goldilocks did in Papa Bear’s chair but it is still her favorite. “I love to sit here because I can look out at that beautiful tree. The leaves are gone now, but it was so pretty this fall,” she said.
With her iPad in hand she says she likes to curl up in the comfy chair in the living room with Luigi, the family dog. Luigi, or Louie as they sometimes call him, snuggles up beside her or lounges on the ottoman.
“I am addicted to my iPad and guess what I can’t get enough of is Kansas history. I love it. I look at the old photographs of Wichita time and again and I see something different in them every time,” she said.
Susan and her husband, Rob Snyder, have two daughters, Jenna and Nikki. The girls have provided some of the décor for the room. “Those pots were made by them in second and third or fourth grade. And I framed art by them from grade school,” Susan said.
Family photos of the girls and Susan’s and Rob’s parents fill the shelves. “I know a decorator would say, ‘what are you doing with all these pictures?’ but I don’t care. I like to have them where I can see them,” she said.
A big television is in the corner but she says she doesn’t watch it much, even though she was in the television news business for 30 years. “I do watch television, but usually it’s in the other room.”
She’s retired but is excited to be working on her Susan’s Kids project that helps place foster children in permanent homes. “I have more time to work with charities and give talks,” she said.
And she has more time to relax in that favorite space.
